Who they are
RÜFÜS DU SOL is an Australian trio formed in Sydney in 2010: Tyrone Lindqvist on vocals, Jon George on keys and synths, and James Hunt on drums. Unlike most Tulum brands, which are labels or DJ collectives, this is an actual band, with live instruments and a voice that really sings.
What it feels like, from someone who's been
The time I saw them, honestly, the stage wasn't anything spectacular. But their music felt like a journey: melancholic, full of love, with a touch of spirituality that made you vibrate higher. They leave you with a really beautiful feeling of happiness, and it's more music with vocals. They make you feel vulnerable, like you want to hug your friends and tell them how much you love them. I saw so many little huddles of friends saying really sweet things to each other and thanking each other for the friendship.
For people who aren't that into electronic music yet, parties like this are the best: they're the ones that make you feel welcome at this kind of event. It's a soft, really good way in.
The sound: deep house with vocals
Deep house and progressive house with indie-dance touches, but sung: electronic music you feel because you can sing along too. That's what sets them apart from the rest of Tulum. Almost every other brand is instrumental, and this one gets to you through the lyrics as well.
