Ritual Etéreo Party with feathered dancers and copal incense on the beach

Our philosophy

The world teaches more than any classroom.

Anyone who's ever wanted to learn a language after hearing it at a party knows this. Anyone who got a business idea just from watching someone else pull it off in another country knows this. Anyone who came back from a trip seeing something they used to take for granted differently knows this.

We don't teach anything. We open the door, we look after the path, and we let the world do its thing. We call that the school of life.

We believe in Xenia, the sacred Greek law: hosting someone from elsewhere is a duty, not a hotel transaction. We provide shelter, delight and absolute safety. You bring your trust, your good energy, your stories. That's how it's always worked.

We believe in Hermes, the god who protects the roads and guides transitions. That bridge is brotherhood, and it's what truly stays once the trip is over.

The destination was never the place. It's the way you come back seeing the world.
This is MATIE.

The three pillars

Where everything we do comes from

Two of them are what we bring. The third is what comes from putting them together.

MATIE

01

School of Life

The why

Growing up doesn't happen in a classroom, it happens when the world catches you off guard. Every MATIE trip is designed to make that happen: not to teach you something, but to put you where something can happen.

  • Personal and collective growth Cultural openness, continuous learning, and support networks that stay long after the trip.
  • Fun with purpose Celebration and personal discovery were never opposites.
03

Brotherhood

The bridge

Hermes, the god who protected the roads and guided transitions. The bridge between one stage and the next. It's what unites the MATIE community, and it's what truly stays once the trip is over.

  • Student life From high school to the world: the trip that closes one chapter and opens the next.
  • Adult traveler Curiosity, again: traveling once more without anyone treating you like a passing tourist.
02

Hospitality

The how

It comes from the Latin hospes: the same word meant both host and guest. There's no hierarchy: whoever receives also feels received. For us it means flexibility: everyone lives the same trip their own way, and we adapt to who each person is.

  • Trust From every traveler toward us, and from every parent toward their child's growth.
  • Responsibility We look after every experience with absolute commitment to safety and support.

School of Lifeputs you where something can happen.

Hospitalitymakes you feel at home while it happens.

What's left when both things happen at the same time, with the same people, is brotherhood.

Brotherhood is lived in two ways

Same pillar, two moments in life. No one feels out of place because the trip isn't built for just one kind of traveler.

From high school to the world

The close of a chapter with your whole graduating class: the trip people still talk about years later, with the people who lived it with you.

Curiosity, again

Traveling again with the logistics handled and people worth crossing paths with. Neither overprotection nor a tourist's itinerary.

Who's behind MATIE

Charli López, founder

Charli López, founder of MATIE Adventures, with his camera on the beach

I moved to a new city and didn't have the money for my own graduation trip. I organized one for my friends in exchange for a discount from the agency I worked for, and from there they offered me the chance to run the business in my new city. That's how it all started.

I got into this for the simple pleasure of traveling; the money was an extra that came later. What really keeps me going is getting to know the world and the people who live in it. It's the only routine I never get tired of, because even if it's the same destination and the same plan, every year the graduating classes, the vibes and what I take away change. I've met incredible people, and over the years I've learned to tell, just from how someone carries themselves on a trip, who's going to go far.

That was in 2014. I spent six years organizing trips for an agency, and in 2024 I started MATIE on my own. Between the two stages, I've personally traveled with over 3,000 travelers, counting only the ones I sold myself, not the whole company's. More than a thousand of them have already traveled with MATIE.

Today MATIE has a presence in more than 20 cities across the country.

"You are not alone in this. You never have been."

— Mr. MATIE

It's not just our clients who say it

Who else has been there

In April 2024 we organized the total solar eclipse camp in Nazas, Durango, one of the few points on the planet right on the path of totality. We weren't alone.

"We had the immense pleasure of giving scientific talks and workshops along with astronomical observation at the camp that was set up, and later the explanation and observation of the eclipse. This event was an unforgettable experience and was possible thanks to our friends at MATIE Tours, whom we thank enormously for the invitation, and we highly recommend experiencing one of their tours."
